About the Units
Pennock Hospital features three distinct nursing units:
- Emergency Department: A 12-bed, fast-paced Level 3 trauma center treating patients with conditions such as animal bites, seizures, broken bones, drug overdoses, and burns.
- Medical-Surgical Unit: A 13-bed unit with overflow into ICU, Stroke Certified. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for days and up to 1:6 on nights. The unit emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
- Intensive Care Unit: A 6-bed ICU that may also care for Med Surg patients, Stroke Certified. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for both days and nights. The unit values accountability, compassion, and high-quality patient care.
All units treat patients as family and offer flexibility in scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, ethical, and accountable nursing care in accordance with ANA professional standards and Michigan state regulations.
- Demonstrate competency using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Uphold professional performance standards, including communication, collaboration, culturally congruent care, leadership, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.
- Strive for optimal patient outcomes across all assigned units.
Requirements
- Previous inpatient experience.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) – Required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required within 5 years of hire.
- Michigan RN License – Required.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required within 90 days of hire.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required within 6 months of hire.

Schedule
- Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
- Hours: 36 hours per week.
- Days Worked: 3-week rotating schedule.
- Weekend Frequency: Every third weekend.
Primary Location: Pennock Hospital – 1009 W Green St, Hastings.
