About the role
The position is responsible for setting up rigging for construction projects and/or manufacturing plants. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions; inspecting rigging equipment; attaching slings, chokers, spreader bars, and moving materials using hoists, chain falls, snatch blocks, or come alongs; guiding loads during lifts; and performing daily safety checks.
Responsibilities
- Maintain proper hand signals to communicate with equipment operators.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.
- Use measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc., to perform tasks accurately.
- Understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
- Have specific knowledge of rigging equipment and their capacities and uses.
- Inspect all rigging equipment prior to use for wear, damage, or deterioration.
- Attach slings, chokers, spreader bars, etc., to material to be moved.
- Attach rigging and manually move materials, equipment, parts, or assemblies into position using hoists, chain falls, snatch blocks, or come alongs.
- Assemble rigging and move materials, equipment, parts, or assemblies.
- Act as safety observer on equipment lifts.
- Plan or assist in the pre-planning of lifts.
- Guide load during lift and positioning.
- Signal Equipment operator during lifts for directional or placement instructions.
- Climb structures to guide and position load.
- Assist in connecting or stabilizing of load prior to detaching load from equipment.
- Detach loads and remove rigging equipment.
- Place and remove outrigger pads from Cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
- Respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
- Take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.
- Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
- Communicate with Foreman regarding any problems arising, materials required, or any hazards noted.
- Work under production schedule pressure.
- Achieve set standards of accuracy.
- Perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications
- 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High School diploma or GED Certification (preferred).
- Applicable Rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body.
- Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume.
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
- Obtain, through evaluation, the certification to operate project site mobile cranes.
- Provide Safety Toe Boots.
- Follow all state, company, client, OSHA, and federal guidelines regarding health and safety.
- Practice and maintain good "House Keeping" by cleaning up their work area and jobsite after each task.
- Know equipment safety, maintenance, and storage.
- Know manufactures load charts and how to interpret.
- Have analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to work with limited supervision.
- Speak English fluently to understand equipment load charts, prepare written orders, read safety topics, etc.
Physical Demands
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
- Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
- Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
- Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
- Keep good balance and work at heights.

Hours
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
Travel
Travel required up to 90%.
