About the role

This position involves planning, laying out, and installing rigging components for the safe lifting and installation of equipment, machinery, and materials. The role requires familiarity with rigging techniques, including the selection, attachment, and use of slings, cables, pulleys, winches, blocks, sheaves, wires, and straps.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the crew.
  • Produce high-quality work, safely and productively at all times.
  • Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment, and information are available for the work.
  • Look for opportunities for improvement in all tasks, means, and methods regarding the work and be willing to learn from others.
  • Continually seek opportunities to share knowledge and teach others.
  • High proficiency in all related trade mathematics.
  • Inspect subordinates' work, ensuring accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explaining deficiencies, and taking necessary corrective action.
  • Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.
  • Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years (level I), four years (level II), five years (level III), and six plus years (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the ironworker trade, including reading and understanding drawings, specifications, safety, and quality standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current rigger license or certification as required by local, state, or federal law or regulation.

Physical Requirements

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • Straighten, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
