Restaurant Server (Part-Time)
About the role
The Part-Time Server reports to the Restaurant Management/Supervisory team and is responsible for providing excellent service to guests, managing their dining experience, and maintaining the restaurant's ambiance and service standards.
Responsibilities
- Speak eloquently about the hotel, restaurant, food and beverage offerings, wine, beer, and cocktail selections.
- Gain insights into a guest’s dining preferences through verbal and nonverbal cues.
- Maintain the ambiance and service standards of the hotel throughout the dining experience.
- Protect the establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
- Prepare tables and set decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, polish glassware, and polish utensils.
- Transmit orders to the bar and kitchen by recording guests' choices, identifying dietary needs, food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests.
- Inform kitchen staff of timing of meal progression and serve orders by picking up and delivering guests' choices from the bar and kitchen and delivering accompaniments and condiments from service areas.
- Respond to additional guest requirements by inquiring about needs and observing the dining process.
- Maintain table settings by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, maintaining beverage service, and being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
- Handle various payment options and obtain revenues by totaling charges, issuing bills, accepting payments, delivering bills and payments to hosts, returning change or credit card and signature slips to patrons.
- Conclude the dining experience by acknowledging guests' choices and inviting them to return.
- Provide instruction and assistance to the server assistant in their station.
- Resolve any guest issues and complaints in a calm manner and communicate all concerns to management.
- Restock service stations as needed.
Requirements
- Capable of offering a charismatic and friendly style of service tailored to specific guests and their needs, building a rapport with guests to establish future business.
- Able to motivate and inspire others to work cooperatively to achieve a designated goal.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent Hotel data.
- Able to communicate effectively in English with guests, managers, and colleagues.
- Able to convey technical information through writing to a nontechnical audience so the recipients easily understand the information and can quickly and correctly apply it.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle the fast-paced environment and effectively manage an assigned station to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Learn and retain the product knowledge relative to the position on the floor.
- Knowledge of Food & Beverage and Private Dining operational procedures is beneficial.
- Knowledge of overall hotel operations as they affect department preferred.
- General understanding of POS systems and ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems preferred.
- Able to exercise personal discipline and extra diligence to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Flexible schedule - willing and able to work shift duties that may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- High school or equivalent preferred.
- Two years of high-end hotel restaurant server experience preferred.
- RBS and ServSafe Food Handler Certification required.
- All colleagues must maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance (specific standards will be provided).
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill necessary tasks.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 30lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
