Job Summary
Geisinger offers a full-time Respiratory Therapist Float position with a minimum hiring rate of up to $30.40 per hour, plus a $35.40 hourly float premium and up to $11.50 in shift differential pay for evenings, nights, and weekends. Applicants may also receive up to $7,500 in relocation assistance.
Job Duties
- Performs thorough patient assessments and establishes appropriate care plans.
- Communicates with other members of the patient care team.
- Correctly performs and documents routine therapeutic modalities including aerosolized medications, secretion management techniques, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy, and assists with routine care and maintenance of artificial airways.
- Initiates and manages conventional and high frequency mechanical ventilators according to established protocol.
- Provides appropriate, age-specific, patient and family education as it relates to disease management.
- Aids in the intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
- Responsible for acute airway management in emergent situations.
- Sets up and manages non-invasive monitoring (ETCO monitors, pulse oximeters).
- Assists with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory related DME supplies, following appropriate insurance guidelines.
- Adheres to regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Maintains the confidentiality of patient information according to established internal and external specifications and regulations including release of information and HIPAA.
- Functions as the Shift Coordinator (charge person) after one year of employment.
- Aids the medical team in the performance of fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures.
- Aids the medical team with the placement of invasive monitoring lines and obtains hemodynamic measurements and calculations.
- Assists in the intra-hospital transport of age-specific patient groups.
- Functions as a preceptor for orientees and students in their clinical rotation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications
- Requires 36 hours-weekly, 12-hour shifts. Both straight day shift positions and straight night shift positions available. Every other weekend and every other holiday.
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
- Must have the ability to float assignments between Geisinger Medical Center Danville, Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital and Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
- Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program.
