Respiratory Care Practitioner, RRT/ Sleep Technician, PRN

About the role

The Respiratory Care Practitioner/Sleep Technician performs all duties of Sleep Technologist I and II. This position performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and comprehensive evaluation and treatment of respiratory related sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or PH.D) or designee. This may involve polysomnography with ventilator and positive airway pressure titrations. This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities but can provide respiratory care guidance to all Polysomnographic Technologists.

Responsibilities

• Maintains mechanical ventilator, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen and humidity devices.
• Adjusts ventilator and positive airway pressure settings per protocol based on assessments and diagnostic data.
• Evaluates the patient’s respiratory care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel.
• Manipulates ventilators and positive airway pressure equipment with adept clinical skill.
• Troubleshoots basic ventilator and positive airway pressure equipment issues.
• Scores sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events using AASM standards.
• Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
• Analyzes complex situations and applies policy to demonstrate critical thinking and work with minimal supervision.
• Evaluates patient progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions.
• Maintains continuing education requirements for credential by reviewing literature and attending continuing education meetings and seminars.
• Provides appropriate education to sleep patients regarding procedural-related matters using sleep center protocols.
• Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment.
• Selects amplifier settings, obtains quality data, and analyzes data during recordings.
• Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free.
• Identifies, corrects, and documents artifacts.
• Implements appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic intervention, including positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.

Requirements

• Graduate of a CoARC accredited associates degree program in respiratory care.
• Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Illinois.
• Active RRT Credential (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board of Respiratory Care, in good standing.
• RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) obtained within 1 year of employment.
• PALS Certification within the first year of employment.
• Current BLS certification required through AHA.

Qualifications

Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills. Ability to move machines and patient weighing in excess of 25 pounds. Ability to comply with the BRPT standards of Conduct.

Pay
