About the role
The Engagement Center is a welcoming place for adults to get services and advocacy. It houses a health clinic, a behavioral health residential program, and serves as a hub for community providers.
Responsibilities
- Engage clients who come into the Center, helping them register and know what services are offered.
- Help clients sign up for services and provide wayfinding assistance.
- Find clients when it's their turn for a service appointment.
- Sit down with clients to listen, hear what they want/need, and develop a game plan for their immediate needs and future steps.
- Connect clients with case managers in emergency shelters and make quick connections with systems of care for those in crisis or with complex needs.
- Participate in rounds outside the Center to connect with people and help them feel more comfortable approaching a Resource Navigator or other staff member.
- Accompany street outreach to engage unhoused individuals and encourage them to come into the Center.
- Informally coach clients as they use computers and resource materials to search for housing, set up email accounts, complete applications, call landlords, email family and friends.
Requirements
- At least two years’ experience in successfully providing services to people facing housing crises.
- Knows the resources available to people experiencing crises, including homelessness, and can identify action steps and specific resources to recommend to clients.
- Skilled in Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed care; and committed to promoting hope, recovery, and wellness in individuals and communities.
- Able to establish rapport and trust with diverse clients and see each as an individual.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and willing to learn new software and applications relevant to the Engagement Center program.
- Willing to accompany clients to appointments and street outreach staff if it would help them feel more comfortable using the Center.
- Comfortable managing time and working under pressure in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Willingness to adjust work schedule.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services-related field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Act 33, 34, and FBI clearances.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle, or other reliable form of transportation to locations around the county.
Skills
- Understanding of psychiatric rehabilitation principles, addiction recovery practices, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience in Harm Reduction and Housing First principles.
- Proficiency in documentation skills and adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Excellent working knowledge of human services and public benefit programs in Allegheny County.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to build partnerships with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
- Assessment and service coordination skills.
- Resourcefulness and energy to support clients.
- Comfortable finding answers to difficult/complex questions.
