Residential Training Coordinator
About the role
The Residential (RES) program at UCAN's Diermeier Therapeutic Youth Home in North Lawndale serves 70 youth, primarily those coming from DCFS, group homes, foster care, and psychiatric hospitals. The facility employs over 150 staff members who provide services to reduce problematic behaviors and offer a wide range of programs including life skills, tutoring, therapy, educational opportunities, and recreational activities.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and coordinate all Residential onboarding and ongoing training sessions.
- Track completion of required certifications (TCI, CPR/First Aid, Think Trauma, Rule 132 documentation, Evolv/Netsmart training, etc.).
- Maintain accurate training records and compliance dashboards.
- Ensure timely follow-up for missed or expired certifications.
- Prepare training materials and support facilitation logistics.
- Assist in delivering components of new employee orientation specific to Residential.
- Conduct 30/60/90-day follow-up check-ins with new hires.
- Support integration of new staff into the therapeutic milieu.
- Gather feedback to improve onboarding effectiveness.
- Conduct floor-based observations to reinforce proper dorm structure and expectations.
- Provide real-time coaching on documentation and service note quality.
- Aid in progress note spot-checks and Medicaid compliance reinforcement.
- Identify training gaps and communicate trends to the Residential Training Specialist.
- Monitor training participation and completion rates.
- Support analysis of incident trends that may indicate skill gaps.
- Affiliate in updating training materials based on Quality Improvement findings.
- Collaborate with Clinical and Supervisory staff to ensure alignment between training and practice.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required (Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Services, or related field).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Residential Treatment, Behavioral Health, or a related human services setting.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
- Familiarity with Medicaid documentation and Rule 132 standards preferred.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to coach staff in a constructive and professional manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
