Resident Engineer
About the role
Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities
- Cook up personnel activities, with ability to supervise a construction management crew and experience with UDOT documentation
- Delegate certain responsibilities to team members
- Aid with or run various meetings with the crew and contractors
- Coordinate construction activities with the WSP and Client PMA
- Aid with business development for the construction management group
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Monitor project progress and compare it to baseline schedule
- Be responsible for inspections, materials acceptance and documentation for contract compliance
- Prepare and evaluate change orders
- Coordinate questions and responses with designers including specialty groups (e.g., structures, roadway, traffic and safety, drainage, environmental, OCIP)
- Aid with the creation and processing of partial and final pay estimates
- Verify that the crews have the required training and certifications
- Work with UDOT Materials personnel on the sampling and testing and on the inspection of shop fabrication of structural steel, prestressed concrete girders, post tensioned concrete girders and other structural items
- Read and interpret project plans and specifications
- Monitor construction for compliance with project documents
- Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent degree
- PE license
- 7 years of construction experience
- UDOT Masterworks Trained
- Experience and relationships with UDOT region 2 and region 3
- Experience on UDOT projects as an RE or FE
- Valid Utah driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Bituminous Paving Experience
- Concrete Paving Experience
- Direct experience working for UDOT or another firm with UDOT exposure
- UDOT partnering training certification
- Utah PE license or the ability to become certificated within 6 months of hire
