Resident Director
About the role
The Department of Residence Life at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a Resident Director to oversee and manage the university’s residential facilities, residence life educational programs, residentially-based academic communities, residence life student and professional staff, and all promotional communications for the department. This position ensures the safety and security of residents and develops a comprehensive emergency management plan. The Resident Director facilitates operational decisions within defined parameters and establishes the direction, goals, implementation strategy, and policies of the department. Budgetary functions are also performed.
Responsibilities
- Develops a dynamic learning environment in residence halls of 400-800 students in the city of Pittsburgh.
- Commitment to student interaction and mentoring.
- Commitment to inclusion and belonging.
- Leadership and supervision of a student staff of 8-18.
- Develop community engagement plans with student staff and promote University efforts to connect students to campus.
- Promote holistic learning and student wellness.
- Crisis management and follow-up.
- Leadership and collaboration with Living Learning Communities and university partners.
- Manage conflict intervention and follow-up.
- Manage student conduct to provide student accountability and growth.
- Participate in an on-call duty rotation.
- Coordinate maintenance and facilities issues with housing staff.
- Act as an onsite liaison for university partners in emergency situations.
- Advise a residential hall council.
- Effectively communicate in both one-on-one and group settings.
- Membership on a departmental and/or university strategic team/committee.
- Develop and participate in departmental level leadership opportunities.
Requirements

- Experience with a residential curriculum is beneficial.
- Successful candidates must be acutely aware of student and staff development issues to be effective in this role.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- A Master’s degree in Higher Education or Student Personnel or comparable area of study is preferred.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
