Live-in, 46-week professional position responsible for the overall management and supervision of a residential community. The Resident Director participates in planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating a residential education program and has a thorough understanding of student development theory. Represents the department and division while promoting a positive, engaging environment for residential students.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes student development principles to enhance student growth and provide general management and supervision for a specified residential community.
- Supervises Resident Assistant (RA) staff and Desk Attendant (DA) staff, including time reporting and personnel record keeping.
- Builds community through programming based on student needs, regular one-on-one meetings with RAs, conducting student conduct meetings, and supervising a Senior Resident Assistant (SRA) responsible for monthly newsletters and Hall Council advisement.
- Provides direct customer service and responsive communication with students, parents, and families.
- Collaborates with University academic partners to develop thematic Residential Living-Learning Communities.
- Acts as a resource person, referring students to specialized services such as Public Safety, Counseling, Academic Advising, Unity House, Campus Services, Health Services, and Financial Aid.
- Administers conduct violation documentation and enforces the Student Code of Conduct; serves as a Conduct Conference Facilitator and advises students and staff on conduct-related matters.
- Works cooperatively with offices overseeing student conduct (e.g., Office of Student Conduct, Student Affairs, Public Safety, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Counseling Services).
- Implements and enforces departmental and University policies; serves on duty during nights and weekends to address after-hours issues and crises.
- Serves as the on-site liaison to the Department of Public Safety regarding safety and security of University students.
- Assumes administrative functions, including leadership roles in committees such as RA Training, RA Selection, Orientation, Summer Student & Conference Housing, CARE Team, and others.
- Develops and facilitates RA trainings and staff development initiatives.
- Ensures readiness of the residential community, including room inspections, key inventory, and maintenance of residential areas.
- Facilitates occupancy and assignment-related tasks, including residential census, room changes, vacancies, and compliance with immunization or enrollment requirements.
- Coordinates maintenance and housekeeping functions, including work order supervision, damage billing, and vandalism prevention programs.
- Attends departmental and divisional meetings; prepares data for reports such as occupancy, room changes, and programming spreadsheets.
- Participates in and promotes activities for the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Admissions.
- Assists in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistant staff under the supervision of the Assistant Director.
- Manages supply, Hall Council, and Programming budgets under the supervision of the Assistant Director.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Previous Residence Life experience or comparable responsibility in an educational group living environment.
- Previous post-baccalaureate experience with staff supervision, student conduct, educational programming, and residential community operations.
- Live-in position with a 46-week annual contract and 6 consecutive weeks off between June 1-July 31 each year.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- Previous experience as a Resident Director.
- Experience in developing and maintaining Residential Learning Communities or other academic initiatives.

Pay
$53,702.22 - $60,000 annually.
