About the role
The Advanced Computing Solutions Group in the NLR Computational Science Center seeks a Computational Science Researcher with expertise in mathematical optimization and its application to energy systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience with AI/RL techniques.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with domain experts to identify optimization applications.
- Implement and evaluate optimization algorithms and solutions.
- Create new opportunities to integrate AI/RL with optimization.
- Write publications and proposals to advance research directions.
Requirements
- Relevant PhD or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Extensive experience with mathematical optimization and AI/RL techniques.
- Familiarity with parallel computing and machine learning frameworks.
- Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of optimization principles and computational methods.
- Programming experience in Python and/or Julia.
- Experience with optimization software like CPLEX, Gurobi, etc.
- Knowledge of distributed computing and machine learning frameworks.
- Experience with AC-OPF modeling on transmission grids.
- Interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diverse and inclusive research teams.
- Background in HPC systems.
Pay
$83,600 - $150,500 annually
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week
