About the role
The Advanced Computing Solutions Group in the NLR Computational Science Center seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher – Computational Sciences, with a focus on mathematical optimization and its application to energy systems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with domain experts to identify where mathematical optimization can be applied.
- Develop and implement optimization algorithms and solutions using algebraic modeling languages like Pyomo, JuMP, PuLP, and GAMS.
- Utilize mathematical optimization solvers such as CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress, Cbc, Ipopt, and their capabilities.
- Integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, particularly reinforcement learning (RL), with classical optimization methods.
- Contribute to the development of new research directions and proposals.
Requirements
- Recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
- Extensive experience with mathematical optimization formulations and algorithms.
- Familiarity with parallel algorithmic approaches for large-scale optimization problems.
- Good understanding of optimization fundamentals, both computational and mathematical.
Qualifications
- Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as MPI and OpenMP.
- Programming experience in Python and/or Julia.
- Experience with scalable machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch.
- Experience working in diverse, inclusive, and cross-disciplinary research teams.
