Summary

The position involves assisting scientists and technicians in performing various research procedures and operating laboratory equipment. Essential duties include collecting, recording, organizing, and verifying data; maintaining laboratory records; and participating in meetings and planning sessions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Some related laboratory experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Remaining in a seated or standing position for extended periods
  • Reaching and grasping to extend hands or arms
  • Dexterity to manipulate objects, such as using a keyboard
  • Communication skills using the spoken word
  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters
  • Ability to move about workspace
  • Mobility to move materials weighing up to several pounds
  • Exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids, and presence of carcinogenic substances

Compensation And Benefits

  • Compensation range: Research Technician I - $17.86 (minimum) - $22.31 (midpoint) - $29.03 (maximum)

HHMI is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science and education. Responsibilities

May use software applications to assemble, manipulate, and/or format data and test reports. Configure and operate laboratory apparatus and instruments; read and record instrument data; tabulate data; keep laboratory records. May order chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies. Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions. May maintain insects, plants, animals, and/or bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes. Stay current in research area through applicable literature.

May include other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor or others with supervisory authority over this position.

Skills

  • Generally experienced in job duties and in the principles and practices associated with those duties with an understanding of the underlying scientific principles
  • Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction
