About the role
The Research Services Professional in the Brambati Lab will gain valuable new skills at the bench while leveraging their strong organizational skills to manage a new and growing research group within the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine’s Anschutz Medical Campus.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory, research, and administrative functions.
- Learn and utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects, including: Transformation, bacterial culture, and mini/midi-preps for plasmid DNA purification, PCR, DNA digestion, and gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, CRISPR-Cas9-based assays and screening, tissue culture management, immunostaining for protein localization studies, confocal microscopy for high-resolution imaging, generation of CRISPR-Cas9 knockout (KO) human cell lines, and handling of frozen samples.
- Manage and maintain laboratory reagents and inventory, handle deliveries and retrievals from freezers, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
- Prepare lab for daily operations by ensuring safety and cleanliness, dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well-established guidelines, and review and implement lab support policies, practices, and programs.
- Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions, assist with processes and procedures, and provide laboratory science expertise and leadership in study design, experimental oversight, data management, and manuscript preparation.
- Assist with the development of protocol-specific systems and documents, maintain experimental documentation, and provide input and feedback to leadership on team members' performance and development.
- Present data at weekly lab meetings and update projects with the PI, assist team members and researchers from collaborative groups, and support all other projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Entry Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field. One year of professional level research experience.
- Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field. One year of professional level research experience.
- Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field. Two years of professional level research experience.
- Principal Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field. Three years of professional level research experience.
- Master’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab preferred.
- Prior mammalian tissue culture experience (experience with iPSCs or stem cells is a plus but not required) preferred.
- Doctoral degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field preferred for Principal Level.
