About the role

The core of this position is dedicated to conducting open-source research on a variety of foreign affairs and national security issues. You will research, analyze, and interpret data related to sanctions, export controls, and criminal/illicit networks. Responsibilities include monitoring new sanctions, enforcement actions, and policy activity by regulatory agencies, as well as identifying and utilizing new data sources to develop subject matter expertise on strategic topics.

You will work collaboratively with the Kharon Research team to contribute to the development of new datasets, update existing ones, and support new product and partnership initiatives. Cross-functional collaboration is essential as you help build out new research, surface insights from existing content, and report key project metrics to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Monitor new sanctions, enforcement actions, and policy activity by regulatory agencies for developments relevant to Kharon’s products.
• Drive the curation, publication, maintenance, and quality assurance of datasets.
• Perform data validation and reconciliation to support new products and partnership initiatives.
• Conduct research on issues in international affairs that impact business risks and identify relevant data sources.
• Accurately perform detailed quality assurance of data and develop additional tooling to support these tasks as necessary.
• Write original code to assist in automating data analysis, cleanup, and enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Regional Studies, History, Sociology, or a related field.
• At least 1-3 years of professional experience with sanctions, export controls, anti-money laundering, or countering the financing of terrorism.
• Experience researching issues of international security and economy in high-risk jurisdictions.
• Experience with or willingness to learn SQL.
• Experience with data analysis, data visualization, and graph databases (e.g., Neo4J).
• Understanding of or willingness to learn web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XPath, JSON, etc).

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $68,000–$78,000. This figure does not include potential bonuses, commissions, benefits, or equity that may be part of the overall compensation package.

Schedule

This is a full-time role based in NYC or Washington D.C., requiring frequent in-office attendance.
