Remote Volunteer Application Security Engineer — iLevelUP EdTech

Responsibilities

• Review architecture, code, configurations, APIs, dependencies, and cloud services for security risks
• Perform threat modeling, secure-design reviews, and vulnerability assessment
• Recommend practical remediation and help verify fixes
• Improve secrets management, authentication, authorization, encryption, logging, and secure defaults
• Integrate security checks into development and CI/CD workflows
• Support dependency, container, and infrastructure scanning
• Document findings, severity, evidence, and remediation guidance
• Help strengthen incident-response and responsible-disclosure procedures

Qualifications

• Experience in application, cloud, product, or DevSecOps security
• Knowledge of OWASP risks, secure coding, identity, APIs, cloud controls, and vulnerability management
• Ability to communicate risk clearly and collaborate on proportionate fixes
• Strong ethics, discretion, documentation, and responsible-testing practices
• Familiarity with mobile security, privacy engineering, security automation, or education technology is helpful

Pay

This remote, recurring opportunity typically requires up to 10 hours per month.
