Remote Lead Security Officer (Rotational) - YKHC - Bethel, AK
About the Role
The Remote Lead Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients in remote settings where health, safety, and security is the top priority. This position offers oversight and support for security operations in a remote environment, ensuring compliance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Assigns personnel to various posts or patrols and interprets security rules and procedures.
- Supervises operation procedures and activities for a client’s security services.
- Develops and maintains a deep understanding of business demands, documenting complex processes while managing business and staffing needs.
- Reviews and submits Daily Activity Reports and Incident Reports to clients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepares monthly security reports analyzing trends and activities, providing security recommendations to clients.
- Conducts post orientation and training for new officers.
- Prepares annual performance evaluations for officers in conjunction with local management.
- Translates business needs into functional requirements and documents them for validation.
- Prepares work schedules and reviews leave requests for approval or denial.
- Communicates continually with clients to assist with security matters and improve services.
- Receives and resolves irregularity reports.
- Administrates business-related paperwork and performs security investigations.
- Reviews recorded data (e.g., property damage, unusual occurrences, incident reports) to determine appropriate actions.
- Confers with agencies to gain cooperation and coordination.
- Coordinates post orders, updates, and revisions.
- Serves as on-call during off hours and may assume the role of Incident Command depending on the incident.
- Acts as Transportation Dispatcher, ensuring shuttles are dispatched to appropriate pick-up locations.
- Monitors Market/Café items for loss prevention and conducts cash transactions for purchases.
- During fall and winter, monitors and records outside driving and walking conditions, notifying the client when maintenance is required.
- Provides transportation services using various vehicles, including passenger vehicles, buses, and off-road vehicles.
- Provides emergency medical intervention, including CPR, AED, and patient movement.
- Notifies supervisors if safety and sanitation standards are not met.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of full-time professional security, law enforcement, or military experience.
- At least two (2) years of supervisory experience in a directly related field.
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to qualify under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
- Must obtain and pay for an Alaska Guard License ($98.25 fee) prior to beginning work.
- Must obtain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
- Effective training skills and ability to produce specific training for each security position and general security training quarterly.
- Working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and contract-specific software.
- Basic math skills.
- Must pass pre-employment requirements, which may include a hair follicle drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants not near a testing facility are responsible for travel expenses.
- Must be able to live in dormitory-style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.
- Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.
- Ability to make decisions with little to no supervision.
- Must be able to stand for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
- Must speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
- Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This role operates in a remote hospital environment, frequently exposed to arctic conditions with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Must constantly stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Fit-for-Duty Test requirements:
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle (2 repetitions).
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist (2 repetitions).
- Carry 35 lbs. with two hands for a minimum of 150 feet, self-paced (60-second rest break after 75 feet).
- Push horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands.
- Pull horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands.
- Perform alternate cross-over toe touches (10 each side, self-paced but continuous).
- Kneel on one knee and stand, alternating knees (3 repetitions per knee, self-paced but continuous).
- Stand from a supine position while wearing arctic gear (3 repetitions, self-paced).
- Walk on a treadmill at 3 MPH for 10 minutes with good balance.
- Climb up and down 10 steps (20 steps total, self-paced).
- Perform a shovel test for five (5) minutes (continuous, no breaks) using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached.
- Climb up and down 10 steps (20 steps total) while carrying 30 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand for safety (60-second rest period after 10 steps).
Pre-Employment Testing and Travel
For candidates residing in the Lower 48, Anchorage, AK, is considered the point of hire for pre-employment testing (except drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence). Candidates are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks in Anchorage, including safety training, physicals, DOT medical cards, fit-for-duty assessments, audiograms, and other contract/company requirements.
For candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska and Hillcorp contracts, pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s residence unless services are unavailable locally. Employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage for scheduled trips to remote locations.
