About the role

The Registration Representative at Mayo Clinic is responsible for accurately checking in, admitting, and registering patients in the hospital or emergency department setting. This includes verifying patient demographic information, collecting insurance data, creating appropriate accounts, obtaining patient signatures, and providing required forms or letters. The role also involves assisting patients with self-registration, collecting indicated co-payments and/or share of cost, ensuring patient safety through positive identification protocols, and assisting with hospital presumptive eligibility or Medicaid applications.

Responsibilities

• Accurately check in, admit, and register patients in the hospital or emergency department setting.
• Verify patient demographic information and collect insurance data.
• Create appropriate accounts and obtain patient signatures.
• Provide required forms or letters and assist patients with self-registration.
• Collect indicated co-payments and/or share of cost.
• Ensure patient safety using positive patient identification protocols.
• Obtain appropriate consents as required.
• Assist patients with hospital presumptive eligibility or Medicaid applications.
• Interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Support the work unit’s performance expectations by adhering to quality assurance guidelines and established productivity standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of relevant experience required.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively.
• Basic computer/keyboarding skills and intermediate mathematic competency.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of proper phone etiquette and phone handling skills.
• Prior desk, appointment, or secretarial experience and a working knowledge of scheduling systems and procedures are preferred.
• Experience in using an Epic RC/EMR system is preferred.
• Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification is preferred.
