About the role

The Registrar Scheduler facilitates patient flow at a clinic by scheduling, registering, and greeting patients. Responsibilities include scheduling consultations, procedures, and tests; entering patient demographic and insurance information; and ensuring accurate billing for services rendered. The role involves verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, obtaining necessary pre-certifications or authorizations, and managing multiple tasks while maintaining professional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients for consultations, procedures, and tests.
  • Register patients and enter demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits via electronic systems or direct contact with payers.
  • Obtain pre-certification or authorization to meet payer payment protocols.
  • Ensure accurate charges for services rendered and track patient visits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance plan requirements and changes.
  • Provide professional customer service to patients, visitors, and associates.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in scheduling or patient access in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • Training or educational background in medical terminology and familiarity with ICD coding preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to deal tactfully with associates, patients, visitors, and the general public.
  • Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial and managed care payors and terminology.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
