Registered Nurse Surgery

About the Role

The Registered Nurse Surgery provides patient care as a circulating nurse, utilizing scrubbing skills when needed, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Director. They care for patients across all age groups, ensuring safety and quality during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients pre-surgery and educate families.
• Prepare patients with IV therapy and medications.
• Participate in surgical site verification and respond to emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
• Assess and monitor patient condition throughout shifts and document thoroughly.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team including surgeons and technologists.
• Apply nursing processes, critical thinking, and leadership skills to ensure safe and effective patient care.
• Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, and follow-up care.
• Support a collaborative, respectful culture with ongoing adherence to protocols and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• RN license with diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree.
• BLS certification.
• Prior surgical experience preferred; circulating and scrubbing skills advantageous.
• At least 2 years of acute care nursing if new to the OR.
