About the role

As a Transport RN at Banner Desert Medical Center, you will play a vital role in the assessments and plans of patients, transporting cardiac monitored patients throughout the campus and assuming their level of care. This active position involves taking patients to procedures and appointments (e.g., Medical Imaging) and moving patients from the Emergency Department to their rooms. Transport RNs walk an average of 15,000 steps per day.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs.
  • Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe.
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers.
  • Formulate and revise a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing patient, family and health team input.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team.
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and legible manner.
  • Provide care based on evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Promote continuity of care by communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and contribute to the education and orientation of staff, patients, students, families and visitors.
  • Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and external contacts regarding patient care.
  • Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the patient and family response to changes in health status.

Requirements

  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU or ICU experience.

Schedule

  • 3×12-hour day shifts, 7:00 am–7:30 pm.
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
  • $3/hour weekend shift differential when applicable.
