About the role

The Registered Nurse at Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Tupelo is a key member of the interdisciplinary team, assuming primary leadership for milieu management and directing patient care activities. The role requires a deep understanding of psychiatric disorders and the ability to implement effective nursing interventions.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes for each patient, including discharge planning.
• Administers medications safely and educates patients on their prescribed medications.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and documents care accurately and comprehensively.
• Communicates with staff to ensure continuity of care and assists in staff assignments.
• Adapts to a high-stress environment and manages potential patient escalations.
• Communicates effectively with patients and colleagues, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and empathy.
• Participates in professional development and maintains licensure.

Requirements

• Current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing, with one year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Understanding of normal physical and emotional development.
• Self-confidence and ability to lead and direct others.
• CPR certification and successful completion of an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
