The Registered Nurse at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond plays a crucial role in milieu management and directing patient care activities. They are responsible for assessing patients, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes to promote and restore their physical and mental health.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Identifies and manages patient risks, develops individualized treatment plans, and monitors patient progress.
• Administers medications safely and educates patients on prescribed medications.
• Documents patient care accurately and ensures continuity of care.
• Communicates with staff and patients to ensure effective teamwork and patient safety.
• Assists in staff assignments and delegation of duties.
• Maintains professional standards and engages in ongoing learning and development.

Requirements

• Current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• High stress environment with potential for patient escalation.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and special needs population.
• Understanding of normal physical and emotional development.
• Ability to think critically and apply concepts for continuous improvement.
• CPR certification and completion of an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
