About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health. This program provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships.

Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing opportunities, or other sectors of nursing. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience. New Grads will also need to live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into.

Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, which will include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred; open to ADN at select locations)
  • Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience
  • Previous healthcare experience is preferred

Unit Description

Join our Medical Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and become part of our talented team of professionals. Our state-of-the-art Neurosurgical ICU specializes in high-level care for patients with complex disease processes. We are committed to providing excellent patient care and are ranked as one of the top five hospitals in Phoenix, recognized for eight high-performing specialties according to U.S. News Best Regional Hospitals report.

As a Neuro ICU Registered Nurse, you will be at the forefront of clinical excellence and complex neuroscience care. We are the first comprehensive stroke center in Arizona and care for the most critically ill neuroscience population in the southwest. We have a great partnership with our service line physicians, residents, and care providers. As a teaching facility, we engage staff and providers in evidence-based practice (EBP) and encourage staff involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers
  • Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy
  • Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
  • Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and medical plan of care
  • Set realistic, measurable goals for the patient in conjunction with the patient/family
  • Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care
  • Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team to plan care
  • Review and revise the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of patient status
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities
  • Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel
  • Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers
  • Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed
  • Evaluate patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a legible, timely, and policy-compliant manner
  • Provide care based on the best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership
  • Interact and participate in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
  • Promote and support the growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes
  • Actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts concerning patient care
  • Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status

Qualifications

  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
  • BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice
  • Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired
  • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations

Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. For Home Health settings, team members must be able to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver's license with active auto insurance coverage. Employees working in Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of their employment.
