RN Resident/New Grad Nurse - Neuro ICU

About the Unit

The Neurological Intensive Care Unit on G20/H22 provides world-class care to complex neurological medical and surgical patients. The unit is certified as part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center within Cleveland Clinic’s nationally renowned Neurological Institute. Located on Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus, the patient population includes young adult through geriatric patients with diagnoses such as:

  • Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
  • Subdural hematomas
  • Status epilepticus/seizures
  • Brain tumors
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Spinal injuries

Nursing staff are highly trained specialists in advanced neurological assessment techniques and perform state-of-the-art medical interventions, including:

  • Aneurysm coiling
  • Interventional radiology for acute strokes and treatment of vasospasm
  • Hypothermia therapy
  • Medically induced paralysis to optimize brain tissue viability

Nurses promote early patient mobility using modern equipment such as ceiling lifts and other devices to ensure caregiver and patient safety. The unit offers an individualized orientation process with one-on-one preceptors and weekly progress meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability)
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce, or prevent risk
  • Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently
  • Document in patients’ medical records

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • New graduate RN or less than one year of RN work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements

  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
  • Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Schedule

  • Three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Day/Night rotations (rotating every 6 weeks)
  • Every other weekend/holiday (EOW/EOH)
  • Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Pay

Pay range for new hires: $35.50 – $55.60 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
