About the role

Portsmouth Regional Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The hospital is a 240‑bed acute care facility in Portsmouth, NH, recognized as an ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, offering a robust heart and vascular program. As part of the HCA Healthcare family, you’ll be supported by one of the nation’s leading healthcare systems, with a strong presence in New Hampshire that includes four hospitals, three freestanding emergency rooms, and over 70 care sites.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care in accordance with department needs and state/specialty scope of practice.
• Collaborate with medical providers and care team members to provide individualized, comprehensive, compassionate care using nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.”
• Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers; model commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers.
• Document administration of care in the patient medical record timely and thoroughly.
• Teach patients/families/caregivers about medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow‑up measures.
• Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
• Teach patients/families/caregivers about non‑medicinal follow‑up measures such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes.
• Prepare patients and families/caregivers for future self‑management.
• Manage evidence‑based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet quality measures and enhance care.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver holistic patient treatment plans that promote recovery.

Requirements

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
