About the role
The Referral RN in the Access department is a registered nurse who assesses and evaluates patients' charts for potential hospital admission, takes physician orders, and reviews medication reconciliation with the physician and/or Assessment RN following the nursing process and the standards of care and practices. This role requires good clinical skills and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Responsibilities
- Review medical charts from referring hospitals received via fax.
- Accept patients for the hospital based on criteria, capacity, and capability of RIS.
- Work with children, adolescents, adults, and senior populations, demonstrating familiarity with common diagnoses and specific assessment/interviewing skills for each group.
- Call physicians for admission and medication orders.
- Collaborate with the Assessment RN for medication reconciliation verification provided by patient/family/pharmacy.
- Report any signs or symptoms of infection, illness, or medical instability to the physician after assessment.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited RN program; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a psychiatric facility (preferred).
- Currently licensed to practice by the Georgia State Board of Nursing.
- Must pass a medication administration exam before administering medications.
- CPR certification and successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior (including restraint and seclusion policies) within 30 days of employment and prior to assisting in restraining procedures.
- Working knowledge of the DSM-V, Mental Status Exam, and the Addiction and Recovery field.

Pay
This is a full-time, non-exempt role with an expected compensation range of $32.00 to $40.00 per hour, plus medical coverage for you and your family. Consideration will be given based on experience and skill level.
