Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Diploma, ADN, BSN, or MSN program
  • New graduates encouraged to apply; previous acute care or telemetry experience is beneficial but not required
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, patient-centered care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

About the Unit

Alton Memorial Hospital, since 1937, has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. The hospital offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services, and more.

The Medical Care Unit (MCU) is a 34 private-room floor located on the 3rd floor of the New Duncan Wing. General medical care includes, but is not limited to, the following disorders: Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, Renal, Neurological, Dermatologic infections.
