Responsibilities

The registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by:

• Utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
• Coordinating the care provided by other professionals.
• Delegating selected acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants.
• Providing selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient's level of acuity and complexity of care required.
• Documenting and communicating the patient's response to care provided, consumption of resources, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred (must obtain within 8 years of hire).
• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan.
• BLS certification required by completion of core orientation.
• Critical care or ALS certifications may be required for some RNs, unit-specific.
• Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH.
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment.
• Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing, and electronically.
• Work involves high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive tasks requiring sustained concentration.
• Regularly lifts bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds).

Unit-Specific Certifications

• Bronson South Haven Emergency Department: SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of hire; ACLS, PALS, and TNCC (for FT and part-time nurses) within 6 months.
• Special Care Unit: PALS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby/Antepartum (BMH & BBC): Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring.
• Scrub RN:
  • Interprets procedure cards and assesses case carts for supplies.
  • Anticipates physicians' needs based on operative procedure and preferences.
  • Evaluates and updates case information (e.g., preference cards, equipment issues).
  • Acts as a resource for circulators unfamiliar with specialty equipment or implants.
  • Performs scrub duties in multiple services (e.g., neuro and ortho STII for spinal fusions).
  • Responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis.
• HDU Department: Additional on-call requirements beyond regular scheduled hours.
• Bronson Lakeview and South Haven Hospitals:
  • Complete annual Workday CBL – "Swing beds" (understanding documentation and care differences for swing bed patients).
  • May be expected to cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview or South Haven based on patient acuity and staffing needs.

  • Initiates and coordinates patient education and care delegation.

The virtual registered nurse leverages technology to deliver patient care remotely, collaborating with bedside staff and the care team to ensure quality outcomes and timely discharge. Core responsibilities include:

• Conducting admission screening, patient/family education, discharge planning, and medication dual acknowledgments via secure digital platforms.
