About the role

Working under provider and/or nursing direction, you will provide clerical and clinical support to the Bronson Cancer Center. This includes rooming patients, providing clinical information to providers and nurses, processing patient charges, and educating patients and families about care. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Schedule

Full-time, 80 hours per pay period. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and prepare patient records, reschedule patients, and triage phone calls.
  • Room patients, provide clinical information, and support providers and nurses.
  • Process and post information to patient charges.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including assessment, histories, vital signs, and medication reconciliation.
  • Document pertinent information in patient charts and maintain documentation standards.
  • Review charts prior to appointments to ensure previously ordered tests are completed and reports are present in the EMR; investigate rescheduling needs if testing is incomplete.
  • Scan documents into charts prior to scheduled visits for provider review.
  • Set up and assist physicians with limited procedures (e.g., pap/pelvic).
  • Schedule outside tests or procedures (e.g., x-ray, MRI) for patients in other departments or facilities.
  • Provide patients with instructions for tests/procedures.
  • Stock exam rooms with supplies and conduct daily inventory; report items to be ordered.
  • Assist in scheduling and rescheduling appointments in the EMR system.
  • Screen calls to determine urgency and necessity of appointments or whether phone advice is sufficient.
  • Attend staff, educational, or other required meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by nurses, practice manager, or physician.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
    • CMA/CCMA/RMA certified.
    • Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer.
  • Knowledge of clinical skills as required with Medical Assistant Certification/Registration.
  • Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral team member with healthcare professionals.
  • Personal computer skills with EMR experience highly desirable.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer service and establish effective working relations with physicians, office staff, and employees.

Work environment

  • Work produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, including interactive and repetitive tasks requiring sustained alertness and concentration (e.g., operating a computer 40–70% of the time).
  • Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (20 pounds or less), and assisting with heavier tasks such as lifting or moving patients.
  • Requires assuming minor straining or fatiguing positions and performing fatiguing physical motions.

Benefits

  • Sign-on bonus for external candidates: up to $1,500.00.
  • Retention bonus for external candidates: $1,500.00.

Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
