About the Role

Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. This involves utilizing the nursing process, coordinating care, delegating tasks, providing physical care, and documenting patient responses.

Responsibilities

  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to patients’ health and assess physical and developmental needs.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems and develop individualized care plans.
  • Implement interventions, administer medications, and manage patient care plans.
  • Evaluate patient progress and effectiveness of interventions.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and maintain professional competency.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to deliver relationship-centered care.
  • Integrate research findings into practice and consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in care delivery.
  • Provide leadership in professional practice settings and participate in committees and staff meetings.
  • For Scrub RNs: Interpret procedure cards, manage supplies, anticipate physician needs, and ensure proper equipment use.
  • For HDU Department: Meet additional on-call requirements beyond regular scheduled hours.
  • For Bronson Lakeview and South Haven Hospitals: Complete annual Workday CBL on swing beds and understand documentation differences.
  • For Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) Role: Conduct admission screening, patient/family education, discharge planning, and medication dual acknowledgments via secure digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred (must obtain within 8 years of hire).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in Michigan.
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation.
  • Critical care or ALS certifications may be required for some units.
  • Bronson South Haven Emergency Department: Complete SALT triage, ESI Triage, NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days; ACLS, PALS, and TNCC within 6 months.
  • Special Care Unit: Obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months.
  • Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby/Antepartum: Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC within 6 months.
  • Current driver's license and proof of insurance required for BAH.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from computer systems and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle high levels of mental/visual fatigue and work with computers for extended periods.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting with heavier tasks.

Skills

  • Proficiency in nursing assessment, planning, and evaluation.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and manage patient care plans effectively.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural and ethical sensitivity in patient care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and digital platforms for virtual care delivery.
