About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Med/Surg Unit. The Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care to patients of all ages through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. You will effectively interact with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Responsibilities

• Apply and document all elements of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of care for patients.
• Utilize a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
• Demonstrate full working knowledge of the nursing process and its application, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
• Evaluate, plan, and make decisions to solve patient-related and administrative problems.
• Demonstrate core competency required for job performance, including language and communication skills (seeing, listening, reading, writing, and speaking) to effectively process and present information in English.
• Perform accurate mathematical calculations.
• Delegate specific tasks to subordinates and assume responsibility for all patient care.
• Use clinical judgment throughout the decision-making process.
• Work with patients, families, and allied healthcare workers to assist patients in reaching their attainable level of wellness.
• Maintain open communication with Clinical Director/Manager, Charge Nurse, and/or Administrative Supervisors.
• Participate in unit meetings, decision-making, and quality improvement activities.
• Support the unit's standards of practice and institutional policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate competency in ECG, medication administration, restraint, and age-specific assessment and care.
• Follow policies and procedures relating to infection control, safety, disaster, and other mandatory programs.
• Contribute to and assist with the orientation of new personnel.
• Provide supervision for ancillary nursing staff.
• Demonstrate flexibility with additional duties and assignments to achieve departmental goals.
• Present a professional appearance and congenial attitude to patients, visitors, physicians, and all health team members.
• Manage time productively and reliably, completing work assignments on time.
• Organize work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity while maintaining quality standards.
• Complete work as required and assist others as needed, adjusting work schedules to accommodate changing priorities.
• Offer assistance to all internal/external customers as appropriate and refer customers to the appropriate individual or department.
• Communicate in a professional manner, emphasizing objectivity and non-judgmental viewpoints.
• Utilize proper body mechanics in all job functions.
• Follow established emergency, infection control, and universal precautions procedures as required.
• Maintain work area and equipment according to standards and policies.
• Attend mandatory in-services related to safety and/or infection control.
• Demonstrate required knowledge and skills to effectively consider individuals' diagnosis, diverse culture, religious beliefs, and age.
• Demonstrate the ability to manage patients with special needs.
• Facilitate patient/family participation in self-care based on age and developmental status.
• Demonstrate appropriate psychosocial interventions based on age and developmental status.
• Evaluate environmental safety and provide a safe environment based on age and developmental status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited or approved school of nursing.
• Current RN License in the state of Illinois.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• CPI Certification preferred.
• ACLS Certification and basic EKG competency within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in pertinent clinical specialty preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk, as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push, or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel, or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing, and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus, and the ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful, intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
