About the role

Baptist Medical Center is looking to add a Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric Operating Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. This is a full-time, day-shift opportunity with weekends. This role requires call with a 30-minute response time and qualifies for competitive call and differential pay.

As a Registered Nurse in the Main Operating Room, you will work closely with physicians and all operating room teams. This role involves checking in and receiving patient assignments. A day in the life of this Operating Room Registered Nurse will vary based on scheduled surgeries—you may work with a single patient in a complex case or multiple patients having shorter procedures.

As a Circulating Nurse, you will meet patients in the OR and remain with them for the duration of their procedure to ensure they are appropriately cared for until transferred to PACU care. You will be the patient’s primary advocate and responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative period.

Responsibilities

• Provide for patient needs using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) aligned with the mission statement and organization
• Supervise care provided by supportive personnel and coordinate care from ancillary services
• Include patients and significant others/families in developing an individualized plan of care
• Educate patients, significant others, and families about their disease process and plan of care
• Coordinate and prepare assigned room/case, assess patient care needs, and anticipate case requirements
• Verify patient information, position the patient, manage the room, and initiate counts
• Require call, weekend, and holiday coverage

Requirements

• 1-2 years of OR Circulating experience or completion of an AORN Preoperative 101 Program
• Associate of Science in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred)
• Conscious Sedation Certification (preferred)
• Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) (preferred)
• Licensed Registered Nurse (required)
• 1-2 years of Cardiac experience (preferred)
• 1-2 years of Telemetry experience
• Hospital experience
