Responsibilities

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Nurse is responsible for a variety of activities aimed at reducing the risk of infection transmission to patients, visitors and employees. IPAC implements activities which include:

  • Collection and analysis of infection data.
  • Development and review of policies.
  • Consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
  • Education efforts directed at interventions to reduce infection risks.
  • Implementation of changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies.
  • Application of epidemiological principles, including activities directed at improving patient outcomes.
  • Supports activities that include participation on committees, work projects and research.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in Nursing, required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year of RN experience.
  • Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, and/or infection prevention and control required.
  • Acute care experience within the last 2 years preferred.
  • Adapts to unpredictable situations related to infection prevention and control.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Works flexible hours that may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Current Arizona registered nurse licensure required.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred on hire and required within 3 years of employment.
  • Experienced in infection prevention, certification preferred.
