About the role

This position will be located at Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital, 1901 Pennsylvania Ave., St. Louis, MO 63133. Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Registered Nurse who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential.

Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), and (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a member of the medical treatment team
  • Reviewing medical records
  • Observing the provision of medical care provided to clients by facility staff
  • Coordinating assessments from other disciplines
  • Incident reporting and investigation
  • Discharge planning in a hospital setting
  • Overseeing and reviewing the work and documentation of LPNs, nursing assistants, and other technical personnel
  • Providing public health services to members of a community such as assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and/or case management (depending on assignment)
  • Overseeing other RNs on a shift (depending on assignment)
  • Specializing in quality improvement activities such as analyzing data and trends of specific health indicators to recommend measures for improvement (depending on assignment)

Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse and 0-3 years of experience as a registered nurse
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a RN in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri's Nurse Licensure Compact at the time of appointment

Skills

  • Knowledge of current professional nursing theory, practices, and standards
  • Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions under general professional supervision
  • Ability to supervise, evaluate, and instruct professional and paraprofessional nursing staff
