Registered Nurse Float II - Nursing Float Pool - PRN

Responsibilities

• Moves flexibly between Medsurg, Telemetry, and Intermediate Care units.
• Administers medications and treatments, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, and care given.
• Evaluates patient care and treatment progress.
• Provides education to patients, families, and caregivers.

• Utilizes the Nursing Process: assesses patient needs, develops and implements care plans, monitors progress, and evaluates outcomes.
• Patient Throughput & Patient Flow: anticipates and plans for admission/discharge/transfer needs to facilitate efficient patient flow.
• Unit Operations: plans, directs, and evaluates nursing care on a unit, ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations: incorporates patient safety practices, communicates effectively, and complies with healthcare laws and regulations.

Technical Competencies

• Clinical Policies and Standards: follows established policies and procedures, analyzes documentation, and assists in procedure development.
• Health Information Documentation: shares experiences with maintaining patient records and discusses the functions of electronic documentation.
• Medical Equipment: describes experience with basic medical equipment and educates patients on its appropriate use.
• Medical Order Processing: processes medical orders, discusses common errors, and differentiates between standing and preprinted orders.
• Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation: reviews and interprets patient charts, identifies mistakes, and discusses misreadings.
• Patient Safety: ensures safety for patients, listens to safety inquiries, and documents near misses.

Job Requirements

• Education/Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years combined experience in Medsurg/Telemetry and Intermediate Care, 5 years preferred.
• Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS, ACLS, RN license in state of employment or compact, and PALS at CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital required.
