Registered Nurse (Flex) - Intensive Care Unit

We are seeking a Registered Professional Nurse responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all nursing care as defined by The New York State Nursing Practice Act. This role focuses on assisting critically ill patients to achieve their optimum health potential within the framework of the nursing process, in collaboration with care providers and other members of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to all critical care/telemetry patients with medical and surgical diagnoses in accordance with professional nursing standards and practices.
• Assessment:
  • Assess patient’s physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through direct observation, interview, and medical record review.
  • Include assessment data from the patient and/or care providers.
  • Utilize observational skills to assess patient needs and document findings, including psychosocial, environmental factors, educational level, and needs.
  • Obtain and review available data from other health team members (e.g., medical/surgical history, physical exams, mental status, therapist reports, physician notes, and community referrals).
  • Identify medical problems resulting from psychological/mental illness and medication use.
  • Communicate findings with other members of the health team (e.g., Social Worker, Case Managers, Therapists, Physicians).
• Planning:
  • Identify and address needs for admission based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and presenting physical/psychological symptoms.
  • Assess patient education and learning needs.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other disciplines and document them.
• Intervention/Implementation:
  • Manage clinical skills in the provision of nursing care, including:
    • Identification of symptoms.
    • Management of disease entities and treatment modalities.
    • Administration of medications.
    • Appropriate intervention in medical/surgical emergencies using crisis intervention.
  • Utilize critical care skills in patient assessment and interventions.
  • Apply infection control procedures and protocols.
  • Address psychosocial needs of critically ill patients.
  • Provide health teaching and medication instructions to patients and next of kin.
  • Ensure all procedures are performed based on established standards of care.
  • Demonstrate competency in performing procedures within the scope of practice and in accordance with Interfaith Medical Center.
  • Investigate and communicate all required information regarding unusual occurrences and patient care incidents.
  • Act as a patient advocate.
• Evaluation:
  • Revise the patient’s plan of care based on evaluation of interventions and expected outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Requirements

• Education: Associate degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Experience: Minimum two (2) years of Critical Care nursing experience required.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current NY State RN License.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
• Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending.
  • May include some repetitive motions.

Pay

The salary range and/or hourly rate is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. Compensation is determined by several factors, including site, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
