Responsibilities
- Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.
- Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Fulfills the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbally communicating the medication to patients/family/significant others.
- Affirms the patient prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed.
- Reassesses and documents the response according to hospital policy.
- Collaborates with peers to coordinate and supervise the delivery of nursing care, delegating tasks and maintaining accountability for care delegated.
- Works actively to promote a culture of safety, assessing patients for potential safety risks, adhering to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety, initiating interventions related to risk factors, conducting bedside shift report and rounds, and demonstrating quality by documenting the application of the nursing process.
- Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant others, planning and providing appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods, and documenting the patient/family/significant other's response to teaching.
- Care for specific patient populations, despite location, as necessary.
- Delivers patient-centered care, embracing cultural diversity and differences, respecting the dignity of all individuals, maintaining open lines of communication, and meeting accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Seeks experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge, and teaches others to succeed through mentorship.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.
Job Qualifications
- Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Experience: Must have at least one year of Emergency Room RN experience.
- License: Current license issued by New York State to practice as a registered nurse.
- BLS and ACLS required.
- Credentials: RN, BLS, ACLS.
