About the Role

This position is based in the Emergency Department at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. The role involves delivering high-quality patient care, promoting safety, and supporting a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.
  • Document detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status. Ensure appropriate documentation for transfers/discharges.
  • Follow the five Rights of Medication Administration. Assess patients prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed. Reassess and document responses per hospital policy.
  • Coordinate and supervise the delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks, while maintaining accountability for care provided.
  • Promote a culture of safety by assessing patients for potential risks and adhering to hospital policies. Initiate interventions related to identified risk factors.
  • Conduct bedside shift reports and rounds with peers at change of shift.
  • Demonstrate quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
  • Assess learning needs of patients, families, and significant others. Plan and provide instruction using applicable teaching methods, and document responses to teaching.
  • Care for specific patient populations as necessary, regardless of location.
  • Deliver patient-centered care by:
    • Embracing cultural diversity and differences among patients and team members.
    • Respecting the dignity of all individuals through caring relationships.
    • Maintaining open lines of communication, including active listening.
  • Meet accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Promote a culture of learning and growth by seeking experiences and formal/independent learning activities to develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Mentor others to succeed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • At least one year of Emergency Room RN experience.
  • Current New York State license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.

Working Conditions

  • Manual: Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.
  • Occupational: Significant occupational risk present.
  • Physical Effort: Very heavy effort; may exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, and other environmental factors.

Pay

Hourly rate: $48.49–$73.58.
