About the Role

Use independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and the nursing process to provide a full range of delegated, interdependent, and independent nursing services to patients. Within the framework of the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice, demonstrate clinical competence, compassion, customer service orientation, focus on process and outcomes, and cost-consciousness when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate development of a multi-disciplinary plan of care in accordance with Nursing Problem Care Sets, clinical practice guidelines, age-specific requirements, and professional/regulatory standards.
  • Provide patient care that respects patient rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs.
  • Assess patient/family educational needs, plan and implement teaching, and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Alleviate patient fears and anxiety through skillful communication.
  • Ensure patient comfort and pain relief using pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, hospital staff, and community agencies to develop discharge plans.
  • Perform admission and shift assessments, including risk factors and appropriate initiatives.
  • Complete medication reconciliation upon admission and changes in care level.
  • Establish, direct, coordinate, and document nursing care plans with patients/families.
  • Monitor, document, and report patient responses to interventions and progress toward outcomes.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, safety measures, medications, and self-care.
  • Work with case managers to ensure appropriate referrals before discharge.
  • Review discharge plans/instructions with patients, including signs/symptoms to watch for.
  • Document patient care according to guidelines.
  • Administer therapeutic regimens, including medications, IVs, and blood products.
  • Prepare patients for surgery or invasive procedures.
  • Perform or assist with procedures according to standards of care.
  • Monitor patient responses, including vital signs, lab work, and pain management.
  • Respond to acute changes in patient status and life-threatening emergencies.
  • Ensure quality of care through communication, ethical issue resolution, and adherence to confidentiality.
  • Promote a safe environment, use universal precautions, and manage resources cost-effectively.
  • Participate in quality monitoring, improvement activities, and teaching/mentoring.
  • Evaluate personal performance and develop improvement plans.
  • Provide direction and leadership to staff, ensuring appropriate patient care assignments.
  • Communicate patient care issues/concerns to nurse manager.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing within 2 months of hire/transfer.
  • Certified BLS provider specializing in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 3 months.

Skills

  • Interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail, especially in stressful situations.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, and lift/position patients.

Schedule

Full-time, 7am – 7:30pm, Monday thru Friday, and every 3rd weekend.

Location

Henry Ford Health Genesys, Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Orientation requires 3-9 months of on-the-job experience to effectively apply unit/departmental policies and standards.
