About the role
The Registered Nurse provides direct care for residents and students, serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, ensures the safety and wellbeing of each resident/student, supervises medication schedules, coordinates with staffing, documents resident's information, draws labs, charts check, conducts nursing assessments, attends to medical complaints, observes restraint episodes, completes incident reports, provides medication education, notifies families of incidents and concerns, maintains confidentiality, and meets staff development requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care for residents and students
- Serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team
- Ensures the safety and wellbeing of each resident/student
- Supervises medication schedules and administers medications
- Coordinates with staffing including referrals for outside medical treatment
- Documents resident’s information into electronic program system
- Draws labs as ordered by the doctor
- Notifies the staff of the next employee that should be mandated for the shift
- Charts daily nursing notes for each resident
- Completes weekly nursing assessments
- Conducts nursing assessments on residents
- Attends to medical complaints and concerns by residents/students in a timely and responsive manner
- Observes all restraint episodes and provides a one-hour assessment
- Completes incident reports and notifies Administration of incidents
- Provides medication education to residents & their families as needed
- Notifies families & referral sources of incidents, medical concerns, and medication changes
- Maintains strict confidentiality and privacy of students' and residents' personally identifiable health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy rules and Facility policies
- Mets mandatory staff development requirements per the standards of all regulatory and accrediting agencies
Requirements
- Nursing Diploma Required
- Associate of Applied Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred, not required
- Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities
- Minimum of 6 months experience preferred
- Registered Nurse License by the Department of Health Professions in good standing
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid
- Valid Driver’s license
