About the role

The Registered Nurse provides direct care for residents and students, adhering to nursing standards and ensuring their safety and wellbeing. As an active member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, the RN determines and delivers the best possible care while supervising medication schedules and administering medications with minimal errors.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications in accordance with established safety, facility, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide medical care to residents/students as needed and coordinate referrals for outside medical treatment.
  • Document resident information into the electronic program system, including labs, daily nursing notes, and weekly nursing assessments.
  • Complete admission documentation within 24 hours and conduct nursing assessments, accurately documenting outcomes.
  • Draw labs as ordered by the doctor and chart labs, daily nursing notes, and weekly assessments.
  • Conduct nursing groups twice a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays).
  • Work closely with therapists for visitations and passes for residents.
  • Supervise staff to follow the daily program and notify the next mandated employee for the shift.
  • Attend to medical complaints and concerns in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Observe all restraint episodes and provide a one-hour assessment.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and notify administration of incidents.
  • Provide medication education to residents and their families as needed.
  • Notify families and referral sources of incidents, medical concerns, and medication changes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of personally identifiable health information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
  • Meet mandatory staff development requirements per regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma required; Associate of Applied Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia regulations.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience preferred.
  • Registered Nurse License by the Department of Health Professions in good standing.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
  • Facility’s approved Behavioral Management Program certification.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Works primarily in a well-lighted, air-conditioned, and heated environment but may be exposed to outside elements occasionally.
