Duties Summary

To qualify at the journey worker (independent) level, performs the full range of work assignments in recreational therapy; independently develops and carries out therapeutic recreational treatment plans; actively participates in interdisciplinary team meetings; conducts therapeutic recreational and leisure activities; observes, evaluates and reports on the condition and progress of patients; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in recreation, physical education, special education, psychology or sociology which included a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in recreation or therapy oriented areas of study; such as, community recreation, physical fitness, gross motor skills, human growth and development, human personality and behavior, and/or abnormal psychology.
  • Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a recreational therapy program which, along with other therapy programs, provided comprehensive treatment and rehabilitative services to persons with physical, mental, emotional and developmental disabilities, psychosocial disorders, substance abuse problems, and/or the elderly. At least one year of the Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the Recreational Therapist II.
