Recreational Therapist, Acute

About the role

Jackson Purchase Medical Center is seeking a full-time, days-based Acute Recreational Therapist to join our dedicated team.

Responsibilities

• Performs structured evaluations and develops a treatment plan in conjunction with primary care counselors using therapeutic, recreational, and leisure activities.
• Conducts assessments and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.
• Pre-certifies patient care.
• Conducts ongoing reviews to authorize continued care.
• Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.
• Formulates a goal-directed plan of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary treatment team utilizing assessment data from the Interdisciplinary Assessments.
• Updates Treatment Plan weekly or more often as needed.
• Captures therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
• Affords assistance in the development of discharge plans in timely and documented standards.
• Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure lifestyles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification.
• Current Recreational Therapist license.
• BLS required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in Recreational Therapy in a hospital setting preferred.
• Experience in treatment planning and implementation highly desirable.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
