Recreation Leader- Part-Time

Job Summary

Intern will work in the office of Councilmember John Heilman, under the direction of his Deputy (Fran Solomon), approximately 15-20 hours per week. Duration of internship contingent upon completion of projects and/or graduation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Aid in research, development, and implementation of City programs, ordinances, and other projects focusing on economic development, gay and lesbian issues, women's issues, affordable housing, community, cultural, and educational programs, advocacy work on AIDS and rent control issues.
• Liaise between the Councilmember's office and various City, County, and State agencies, city constituents, and local businesses.
• Perform independent research, utilizing both traditional methods and extensive use of telephone.
• Interact daily with co-workers and members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• Currently enrolled in college pursuing a degree in Government, Public Administration, Communication, Political Science, Law, or a closely related field.
• Good computer, phone, and report/letter writing skills.
• Some clerical duties may be required.
• Flexible volunteer schedule available.

Benefits

This position is not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City, except those mandated by federal or state law. Interns will receive one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 30 actual hours worked with a maximum accrual of 48 hours.
