Recreation Assistant (Head Lifeguard) NF-02.
About the Role
As the head lifeguard, you will oversee the accomplishment of work and evaluate waterfront operation efficiencies. You will assist the manager by ensuring adequate staffing and the safety of users, direct lifeguards in their duties, and perform checks and adjustments for water quality levels while maintaining pump room operations.
Responsibilities
- Direct lifeguards in the performance of their duties.
- Perform water quality checks and maintain operational pump rooms.
- Support the management team in decision-making and address guest/user concerns.
- Rescue swimmers and administer first aid as required.
- Coordinate and conduct in-service and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 (October 2020).
- Arrange and attend aquatics and oceanfront safety training.
- Maintain peak physical condition.
- Maintain daily logs and records in accordance with policies, regulations, and directives.
- Exercise judgment on routine matters where discretion is permitted.
- Prepare and manage reports and other office functions.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check and pre-employment checks, including a Tier 1 background investigation.
- May be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
- Must be physically fit to perform lifeguard duties, with good vision (20/40 or better, corrected or uncorrected).
- Must hold current certifications in Waterfront Lifeguard, CPR, Oxygen Administration, AED, and First Aid.
- Must obtain First Responder certification within 6 months of hire.
- A Lifeguard Instructor certificate is preferred.
- Must have 12 months of experience in waterfront operations as a lifeguard, including ocean rescue experience.
- Must demonstrate sound judgment, complete tasks within established timeframes, and possess strong communication and people skills.
- Continuous exposure to sun, high temperatures, and humidity; may require Hepatitis B vaccination if exposed to infectious diseases.
- Must follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
- Work hours may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and night duty, with potential irregular assignments for special events.

- Current certifications in Waterfront Lifeguard, CPR, Oxygen Administration, AED, and First Aid.
- Ability to obtain First Responder certification within 6 months of hire.
- 12 months of experience in waterfront lifeguard operations, including ocean rescue.
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and complete tasks within established timeframes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with staff and the public.
- Experience with office and administrative functions, including preparing and managing reports.
- Lifeguard Instructor certificate is preferred.
