Job Description
The attorney will be a member of Brookfield’s real estate group and serve as legal lead for certain of Brookfield’s real estate funds. No prior experience is required in real estate funds or funds legal operations, but the candidate must have a background in private equity fund formation.
Responsibilities
- Serve as lead in-house counsel embedded in Brookfield’s real estate business group for a variety of real estate funds, including real estate equity, credit and secondary closed-end and open-end funds
- Oversee real estate fund legal operations throughout the lifecycle of the real estate funds in coordination with various business stakeholders
- Fund operations duties include:
- Leading investment structuring with finance operations and tax
- Overseeing corporate governance matters for all fund entities
- Coinciding with external counsel and business on the negotiation of credit facilities and ISDAs
- Reviewing investment committee memorandums
- Preparing and reviewing conflicts committee and LPAC materials
- Ensuring business operations are in compliance with fund agreements and regulations
- Drafting and negotiating ancillary fund operational legal documents, including confidentiality agreements and service provider contracts
- Oversee outside counsel and service providers
Qualifications
- J.D. with at least 6 years of experience as a lawyer in a major law firm or in-house
- Private fund experience and knowledge of the U.S. Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and U.S. securities laws required
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Pay
Salary Range: $260,000 - $360,000
Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
