About the role
The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. Key responsibilities include radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, handling and placing signs and equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules.
- Ensure all personnel adhere to safety requirements of the railroad.
- Prepare and submit required electronic forms such as job setup forms, daily work reports, and invoices.
- Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.
- Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
- Maintain open communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

- Proficient in electronic communications and standard office applications.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- At least 20 years of experience as a supervisor track inspection (STI), assistant track supervisor (ATS), Foreman, or higher, or 20 years of experience as a RWIC while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad.

Schedule
Travel requirements involve routine and extensive travel across multiple states, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs. Candidates are eligible to receive daily per diems for meals and hotels, plus mileage reimbursement for all billable days worked.
