About the role
The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection, coordinating job sites, and managing train dispatcher and engineer communication. Responsibilities include maintaining safety protocols, submitting required forms, handling tools, and participating in safety training.
Responsibilities
- Provide jobsite protection, communicate with train dispatchers, and ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements
- Prepare and submit job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other required reports
- Place and remove signs, derail devices, and other equipment, and handle tools weighing up to 90 pounds
- Participate in safety classes and qualification training
- Maintain communication with supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture
- Adhere to company policies and regulations
- Handle other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Able to complete physical demands and tasks
- Able to warn roadway workers of approaching trains
- Understand on-track safety training and qualifications
- Proficient in radio communication procedures
- Proficient in job briefings and sign placement
- Able to install derail devices and apply locking devices
- Proficient in electronic communications and office applications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- At least 20 years of experience as a supervisor track inspection (STI), assistant track supervisor (ATS), Foreman, or higher, or 20 years of experience as a RWIC in a Class I or Class II freight railroad
Skills
- Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
- Understand on-track safety training and qualification requirements
- Proficient in radio procedure for communication between RWIC/EIC’s and assigned work groups
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficient with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
